The omicron variant and the common cold share similar symptoms, especially with breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated people who test positive for COVID-19.

The past variants of COVID-19 had symptoms that were very distinguishable from the common cold, such as fever and loss of taste or smell, but so far, not much data has been reported regarding omicron.

This is, in part, making it difficult for people to tell whether they have the omicron variant of COVID-19 or a common cold, especially if fully vaccinated. ...

The common cold and omicron variant share the following symptoms, according to early research about omicron:

  • Cough
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain or headache
  • Sneezing
 

The only way to tell, ultimately, whether you have the common cold or COVID-19 and its variants is to get tested for COVID-19 and see your health care provider.  ...
